Recap of 'Stitchers' 3x07 "Just The Two Of Us": Everyone Disappears in Stitch Gone Wrong

Everyone except Camsten mysteriously vanishes from the stitch lab in Stitchers episode 3x07 “Just The Two Of Us”. They have to solve puzzles to find out what is going on. At the same time, Kirsten works through her complicated feelings towards Cameron. Is she ready to forgive Cameron for accidentally betraying her trust?

Kirsten bounces out of a stitch and is shocked to find the lab empty. The entire stitch team has vanished. The monitors in the lab are only showing static. Kirsten also smells gas.

Kirsten suddenly sees Cameron passed out on the floor. She shakes him, but he doesn’t wake up. It takes a hard slap to bring Cameron back. Once he comes to, he also smells gas.

Kirsten and Cameron look around the lab. There’s a hot cup of coffee on the table, but no one is around.

Strangely enough, neither of them can remember anything about the case they were working on. They can’t even remember if the victim was male or female. They check the computer, but it only has information their previous case (video gamer Jake Rowland). Kirsten also feels like they are being watched.

Kirsten and Cameron go back to her house to look for Camille. She’s not at the house, but there’s another hot cup of coffee on the table. Kirsten worries that Camille has been kidnapped. Cameron tries to comfort her, but Kirsten tells him not to touch her.

Kirsten checks Camille’s room. She sees blackout curtains that she didn’t notice before.

Cameron calls the NSA. The NSA tells them to stay put. “Mother” is looking out for them. Camsten have no idea who “mother” is. It could be code for Maggie, whoever picks their cases or Kirsten’s mom.

Cameron cooks pasta for the dinner. During dinner, Cameron talks about his mother. He says his mom was difficult to read. He knew she loved him, but the pressure of his condition put strain on her. He wanted to tell her not to worry, but he didn’t know how to tell her. He dealt with his frustration by working on puzzles and thought experiments.

After his dad left, his mom met a guy named Bill. He didn’t get along with Bill, so Bill wanted him gone. His mom had a choice. She could send him away to school or break up with Bill.

Kirsten feels bad for Cameron and reaches out to hold his hand. Cameron pulls away. With everything that’s going on, he thinks it would be better if they don’t touch.

Cameron is ready to spend the night in Camille’s room, but Kirsten freaks out when she sees a woman watching them through the window. Kirsten asks Cameron to sleep in her room. They share the bed, but keep distance between them. Things are still not back to normal in their relationship.

Instead of sleeping, Kirsten and Cameron have a late night chat. Kirsten can’t stop thinking about Cameron’s mother. Kirsten thought she knew everything about Cameron, but she didn’t know that story. Maybe they don’t know each other as well as they thought.

Cameron tells Kirsten to speak for herself. He knows everything about her. Kirsten starts quizzing him, but Cameron answers all her questions easily. He knows Kirsten doesn’t have a favorite movie. He knows Kirsten played basketball in middle school. Ed Clark thought it would help Kirsten be a team player. Kirsten was the best player, but she got kicked off the team. Having temporal dysplasia and no perception of time resulted in a lot of shot clock violations.

Cameron even knows which bone Kirsten broke when she was little. Kirsten was so excited for the ice cream truck that she sprinted to the door and stubbed her toe on a chair. So how did Cameron know that story? Kirsten never told him. She didn’t even go to the doctor at the time because she was too embarrassed.

Kirsten wakes up and panics when Cameron isn’t in bed. She runs into Cameron in the hallway. Cameron was just getting a glass of water from the kitchen. Camille never came home, so Cameron and Kirsten go back to the lab.

Kirsten finds another hot cup of coffee on the table in the lab. She pours the coffee out and finds a key inside. It looks like “Euro” is engraved on the key.

The monitors in the lab are still showing static, but it looks like there is a face in the static. Kirsten finds a puzzle piece in Cameron’s locker, while Cameron works on a way to see the image in the static.

By using the right color light and frequency, they are able to see the hidden images in the static. The images are faces showing sad, happy and surprised facial expressions. Kirsten immediately recognizes them as images people with autism use to understand emotions. Since Kirsten grew up with temporal dysplasia, she also had those flashcards when she was little.

They also see arrows that point to the fish tank. There is a puzzle at the bottom of the tank. It only has one piece missing. Since Kirsten found the puzzle piece in Cameron’s locker, she accuses him planting the puzzle.

Kirsten climbs into the tank and completes the puzzle. It’s a photo of a house with the address 5915 Gelson Street circled in red.

Cameron is excited when he finds a badass vintage car in the garage. It’s a ’65 Falcon and Cameron was obsessed with the car as a kid. He always wanted one, but his mom said it was too dangerous.

They use the key from the coffee cup to start the car. The engraving didn’t say “Euro”. It actually said “Ford”. Cameron finds a Rubik’s cube in the glove compartment.

Kirsten can’t turn the car engine off. Carbon monoxide starts flooding into the garage, but they can’t get the garage open. The door is locked, too. Cameron is about to collapse, but he helps break the door down.

They head back to Cameron’s place. Cameron realizes someone switched one of the squares on the Rubik’s cube, making it unsolvable.

Cameron and Kirsten have enjoyed working together, even though their friends are missing and they almost died. Kirsten wonders if someone is deliberately pushing them together by forcing them to rely on each other. Who would have the motive to make them a more effective team? The NSA and Daniel Stinger both have the motive.

The two go back to the lab. Once again, Kirsten starts suspecting Cameron. She thinks Maggie, Cameron and the NSA are trying to force her to forgive Cameron.  Kirsten no longer trusts Cameron.

Cameron says they were a mistake. His whole life, he’s had problems connecting with people. That doesn’t make sense to Kirsten. Cameron is outgoing. She’s never seen him have trouble connecting with people.

Kirsten finds a computer that’s been modified. It has a colorful keyboard. Kirsten checks the computer to find more about their current case.

Tom Dewitt, a severely autistic man in his twenties, was found dead in the garage. The death was assumed to be suicide. He died from the car exhaust. Tom was also an empath. He felt the depth of other people’s emotional states.

Kirsten realizes Cameron isn’t real. Kirsten is still stitched into Tom. They must have opened a pathway into Tom’s empathy abilities. Instead of objectively seeing Tom’s memories, Kirsten is experiencing them through a filter of her emotional state. Cameron is a reflection of her feelings about their relationship. Not an imaginary friend, but more like a projected friend.

Cameron pulls out a gun and tells Kirsten to shoot him if he’s just a figment of her imagination. Kirsten is sure Cameron isn’t real, but she still doesn’t want to shoot him. She can’t watch something happen to Cameron, even the projected version of him. She cares about him too much. She can’t stand the thought of losing him and it being her fault.

“I guess that means you love me”, Cameron tells Kirsten. Cameron is shot when the gun accidentally goes off. Cameron’s body disappears, so Kirsten knows her theory is right.

Kirsten is ready to bounce out of Tom’s memories, but she suddenly sees all the other victims she’s stitched into. She sees Jake Rowland, Coco Soo and Jamie B.

Most importantly, she sees Ed Clark (the man who raised her after her father took off). Kirsten wants to speak for Tom, but she can’t do it alone. Ed tells Kirsten that she can. Tom needs her. Kirsten doesn’t understand how Tom’s mind works, but Ed tells her not to give up.

Since Kirsten’s conversations with Cameron in the stitch weren’t real, Tom’s memories must have mixed with her emotional state. Anything out of the ordinary must have been from Tom.

So Bill was dating Tom’s mom. The blackout curtains, not wanting to be touched and having trouble connecting with people were all Tom’s life experiences as an autistic man. Tom used puzzles as a way of focusing and feeling in control. The “mother” was Tom’s mother. She was always looking out for him.

Kirsten realizes the monitors in the lab are puzzle pieces. She arranges the monitors and sees a face that she recognizes.

Kirsten makes the bounce and tells the team that she solved the case. Bill Kurland, the mom’s boyfriend, killed Tom Dewitt. He locked Tom in the garage and started the car engine. Tom couldn’t have started the car himself. Tom’s mom kept the car keys in an old coffee cup so something like this would never happen. Tom had heat sensitivity, so he would never touch the cup.

Tom was obsessed with puzzles. Bill left the unsolvable Rubik’s cube in the garage, so Tom would be focused on the puzzle. That way, he wouldn’t have screamed.

Bill was in love with Tom’s mother and he thought her devotion to Tom was destroying their relationship. Bill thought he was freeing Tom’s mother from her burden.

Kirsten felt like she was in the stitch for days, but Cameron says it was only 3 seconds. That was all the time she needed to figure things out. Kirsten kisses Cameron. Looks like the stitch helped Kirsten forgive Cameron and realize how much she loves him.

What did you think of Stitchers episode 3x07 "Just The Two Of Us"? It was fun to see everyone except Camsten disappear, though I did miss seeing Camille, Detective Fisher and the rest of the gang for most of the episode. It was nice to see Ed Clark back. Hoping we get to see more of him in flashbacks. It'd be great to explore more of his backstory. Leave your thoughts and comments below!
